Girls hockey: Topor stops 43 shots to preserve tie
The Rosemount girls hockey team lost a two-goal lead and had to settle for a 2-2 overtime tie in a South Suburban Conference showdown with Burnsville last Thursday at the Rosemount Community Center.
The Irish (2-8-1) got on the board first thanks to a goal by Kendra Goodrich at 13:55 of the first period. Kristen Reuter provided the assist.
Ashlee Humble's goal (assist to Samantha Rhody) made it 2-0 early in the second period. The score stayed 2-0 for just over 10 minutes before Burnsville put the puck past Irish goaltender Lauren Topor to cut the lead back to one.
The Blaze, who had a 45-20 advantage in shots on goal, finally put the tying tally into the net with 59 seconds remaining in regulation.
Burnsville then posted an 11-5 shot advantage during the eight-minute overtime period, but Topor stopped all 11 to preserve the tie. She finished with 43 saves.
The Irish are back in action Dec. 20 against Prior Lake at Dakotah Ice Arena.
