Girls hockey: Irish advance in 3AA

The Rosemount girls hockey team got its confidence going with a four-goal flourish late in a 6-4 loss to 16th-ranked Eagan two weeks ago.

That confidence turned into a wave of momentum that helped the Irish put together their first three-game winning streak and earn a rematch with the Wildcats in the Section 3AA tournament Wednesday night back in Eagan. Results from that game can be found at

The Irish (8-17-1) closed out the regular season by scoring 10 goals in back-to-back wins last week over the two bottom teams in the South Suburban Conference -- Prior Lake and Bloomington Kennedy.

Kendra Goodrich erupted for four goals against Prior Lake. Alexandra Malecha added a late power-play score.

Lauren Topor finished with 17 saves.

Goodrich scored twice against Kennedy and Amanda Comstock, Hannah Esselman and Malecha added single goals.

Topor stopped eight shots.

The Irish earned the eighth seed in the section and edged No. 9 seed Woodbury 5-4 in the playoff opener Monday night at the Rosemount Community Center.
