Girls golf: Wallin ties for third in opener
The Rosemount girls golf team had a late start to the season already scheduled before the spring weather wreaked havoc on the spring season.
The Irish were scheduled to open their season on April 16 with a tournament at the Oaks Golf Course in Hayfield, but the tournament was postponed and rescheduled for May 7.
The long wait was finally over for Rosemount last week as the South Suburban Conference season opened on Thursday at Emerald Greens.
With Molly Flynn out of the lineup with an illness, the Irish finished sixth out of the 10 conference teams by shooting a combined 371.
Eagan won the team competition with a score of 348. Lakeville South was second with a 356, followed by Eastview (360), Prior Lake (368), and Lakeville North (369). A healthy Flynn likely would have moved the Irish up a few spots in the standings.
Eagan's Jordy Drenttel won the individual title by carding a 78.
Betsy Wallin led the way for Rosemount with an 87. She was tied for third overall.
Emily Anderson was the second Irish scorer, shooting a 90 and tied for 13th.
Monica McDonald carded a 92 for Rosemount, placing her in a tie for 20th.
Abygail Natoli came through with a 102 for the Irish. Mackenzie Gogolin shot a 108 and Molly Reber carded a 111.
With the weather still affecting the spring schedule, Rosemount is scheduled to play today at the Crystal Lake Golf Course.
