Girls Golf: Mixed results at section meet
The Rosemount girls golf team knew it faced an uphill battle to win the section tournament.
The Irish didn't have the day one performance they might have hoped. But after the front nine last week in the first round, momentum turned for Rosemount.
The Irish finished third as a team in the section tournament, shooting a combined 720 during the meet's two days. Woodbury won the team title with a 650. Eastview was second with a 674 and Eagan was fourth behind Rosemount with a 732.
The Irish shot a combined 356 last week at Phalen Golf Course and finished with a 362 Tuesday at Bunker Hills.
"The first day at Phalen, we were hoping to make a better run at it," Rosemount coach Barry Wallin said. "I think we maybe got a little ahead of ourselves. None of the front nines were very good. The back nine, we settled in pretty good.
"At Bunker Hills, I was thrilled. We played quite well. The girls really came back and did a nice job."
Senior Amanda Northwick qualified for the state meet with a combined 172 to earn the final spot. Fellow senior Becca Eggers just missed after shooting a 173.
