Girls basketball: Victory keeps Irish out of last place
Rosemount stayed out of last place with a 60-55 victory over Burnsville in Friday's regular season finale.
The Irish entered a game behind both Burnsville and Lakeville South in the South Suburban Conference standings. The win drew all three teams to matching 4-14 league records, but the Irish stayed out of last place by virtue of their season sweep of the Blaze.
Head coach Sam McDonald's team finished with an overall record of 9-17, earning the No. 6 seed in Section 3AAAA. The Irish faced third-seeded Apple Valley (14-12) in the opening round Wednesday night. Results can be found at rosemounttownpages.com.
Sophomore Hannah Grim led the Irish with 24 points on 10 of 20 shooting from the floor and grabbed a season-high 10 steals. Teammate Kaylie Hanson knocked down three three-pointers for nine points and post player Laura Dennis added nine points and nine rebounds.
Rosemount lost its third straight conference road game last Tuesday at Eagan. The Wildcats improved to 8-17 with a 72-67 win in their final home game of the season.
Grim once again paced the visitors with 34 points. She made 12 of 29 shots from the floor, knocked down three three-pointers and hit all seven of her free throws.
Hannah Halterman and Megan Schuster joined Grim in double figures with 10 points apiece. Dennis led the way on the glass with nine rebounds, Schuster grabbed eight and Ellie Vraa added seven.
