Girls basketball: Rosemount rallies past reeling Lakeville South
n The Irish handed the Cougars their ninth straight loss Friday
The Lakeville South girls basketball team went into Friday night's game in Rosemount in dire need of a victory.
The Irish didn't let them get one.
The Cougars let a six-point halftime lead slip away as they lost for the ninth straight time, 61-58 at Irish Gym. The visitors had a record of 9-4 after they beat the Irish 58-43 back on Jan. 10, but the last month has seen the Cougars drop nine league games in nine tries, including four by a combined 11 points.
The Irish, meanwhile, used improved shooting and ball control to secure their second victory of the calendar year. They shot 41 percent from the field, made 15 free throws and limited their turnovers to 10.
Sophomore guard Hannah Grim led the charge with a game-high 24 points. Taylor Grzywacz added nine points, including five big free throws, and Megan Schuster scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds.
The Irish (8-14) stayed within four points of Prior Lake on the road Monday night, but got outscored by the Lakers 35-25 in the second half of a 65-51 league setback.
Grim was once again the only Rosemount player in double figures, scoring 26 points on 9 of 28 shooting. She leads the team with an average of 19.9 points per game.
Kaylie Hanson chipped in with nine points and made the team's only three-pointer in nine attempts.
Schuster led the way on the boards with six rebounds and Laura Dennis added six steals and three blocked shots.
