Girls basketball: Irish hit SSC snag
The 2012 calendar year hasn't been kind to the Rosemount girls basketball team.
The Irish wrapped up their December schedule with a record of 6-4, but have since lost six straight South Suburban Conference games by an average of more than 18 points per game. The closest of the six came Friday night when 3-11 Eagan escaped Irish Gym with a 63-60 victory.
The Irish shot well, connecting on 50 percent of their shots from the field, but 12 missed free throws and 27 turnovers against the Wildcats' full-court press proved costly.
Sophomore guard Hannah Grim kept Rosemount in the game, scoring nearly half of the team's points. She made 11 of 17 shots from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, en route to a game-high 29 points.
Hannah Halterman scored nine points and grabbed nine rebounds and Kaylie Hanson added eight points. Megan Schuster led the team with seven rebounds and Laura Dennis brought down five.
Shots weren't falling for the Irish last Tuesday against Eastview and the Lightning ran away with a 69-28 conference win at Irish Gym.
The Irish shot 26 percent from the field and finished the game with just 10 made field goals.
Grim led the team with 13 points, but made just 4 of 21 shots. Hanson added seven points and Dennis led the team with eight boards.
The Irish (6-10) traveled to Burnsville Tuesday and are back in action tomorrow night at Lakeville North.
