Girls basketball: Grim reaches 1,000 points, but Irish drop two
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Friday night seemed like it was going to be a good bounce-back opportunity for the Rosemount girls basketball team.

Coming off a disappointing second half in a loss to Apple Valley on Tuesday, the Irish had reason to be confident going on the road to take on a Bloomington Jefferson team that had lost seven games in a row and they had defeated by 10 points in mid-December.

The Jaguars didn't cooperate, however, and shot 54 percent from the field while holding the Irish to 28 percent in a 69-52 South Suburban Conference contest.

"It was a tough night and a very unexpected night as we just didn't play very smart on offense or defense," Rosemount coach Chris Orr said. "We were passing up good looks to take tougher shots or taking quick shots.... We didn't do a good job of making them play defense and getting the ball moving from side to side."

The Irish also had to play much of the game without leading rebounder Meghan Schuster, who took a charge in the first half and hit her head on the floor.

The game's lone bright spot came from Hannah Grim, who scored a team-high 24 points to become the school's fourth 1,000-point scorer. She made 10 of 11 shots from the free-throw line, grabbed a season-high nine steals and added six rebounds. Grim joins Amber Connor (1,401), Meghan Eul (1,188) and Nicole Johnson (1,067) in the school's 1,000-point club.

Hannah Halterman and Kalley McMenomy each added six points in the loss. Ellie Vraa grabbed six boards.

Last Tuesday against Apple Valley the Irish led 23-19 before being outscored by the Eagles 43-13 the rest of the way in a 63-36 loss. They shot just 23 percent while allowing Apple Valley to shoot at a 59 percent clip.

Grim led the Irish with 12 points. Kayle Hanson added nine points and Schuster grabbed nine rebounds.
