Girls basketball: Eagles roll, 71-43
Seventh-ranked Bloomington Kennedy started the game with an 11-0 run and never looked back in a 71-43 rout of Rosemount Friday night in Bloomington.
The Eagles led 35-16 by halftime and coasted to their sixth straight win, while the Irish lost their third straight and dropped to 8-11 overall.
“We got beat in all phases of the game and it was just one of those nights,” Rosemount coach Chris Orr said. “They showed us why they’re one of the best teams in the state. They’re big and athletic and we just had no answer at all for anything.”
According to Orr, Kennedy only made two shots outside of the paint all game. The Irish, meanwhile, shot just 27 percent from the field and 44 percent from the free-throw line.
Senior guard Hannah Grim led the Irish with 21 points, and also grabbed five rebounds and five steals. Kaylie Hanson was the next highest scorer with eight points and also grabbed six rebounds.
Liz Evenocheck added six points and Nikki Grim had five rebounds.
The Irish played at Eagan Tuesday and are back in action tonight at home against Lakeville North. The Panthers won the last matchup between the two teams 58-38 on Jan. 17.
