Former school building taken down
Large-scale demolition work started Monday morning on the former St. Joseph school on Highway 3.
The building is being knocked down to make way for a planned senior housing development and public senior center.
Crews have been working inside the building for several days to prepare for the demolition, removing hazardous materials and doing other jobs. Two backhoes got to work knocking the building down early Monday.
The building has stood for nearly 60 years, but has been empty since the school moved to a new location next to a new church building. The city of Rosemount bought both the school and the adjacent former church building. It has renovated the former church, which has been used as a gathering space and as a location for special events.
