Five file for city council positions

Five Rosemount residents have thrown their name in the hat for two city council seats and one for mayor in this year’s election.

Incumbent Bill Droste is the only candidate to file for the mayor’s race. Droste is running for his fourth term.

The city council field for two open seats includes three-term incumbent Mark DeBettignies, Jamal Abdulahi, Kerry Hiben, Shaun Nelson and Alba Nowlin.

Candidates have until June 5 to withdraw their names. If the city council field remains at five, there will be a primary election Aug. 12, to narrow the number of candidates to four.
