RHS girls hockey car wash

The Rosemount High School Girls Varsity Hockey team will hold a car wash from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Rosemount Goodyear. The girls will even vacuum out vehicles. Suggested donation for the car wash is $10

Tuesday in the garden

Every Tuesday through the summer the Dakota County Master Gardeners will host a class at the University of Minnesota Research Gardens, 1605 160th St. West.

On the 19th, Corinne Johnson and Roxanne Beseman will give instruction on how to attract the beautiful creatures. The class begins at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $10.

Volunteers needed to help Friends of the Mississippi

This spring, 90 Rosemount High School students planted 600 native species in the Rosemount Wildlife Preserve to enhance plant community diversity and increase wildlife habitat. Now, volunteers are needed to help these young ferns, flowers, grasses, and sedges get through the final stretch of their first summer.

From 6-8 pm, join Friends of the Mississippi River Restoration Ecologist Karen Schik to learn about the local preserve and care for the native plantings. Volunteers will help remove non-native invasive plant species and water the young plants.

This is a limited-capacity event; please pre-register by noon on Wednesday, August 27. Directions and details will be e-mailed to registrants or given over the phone if preferred.

Sept. 6

Marching band festival

Rosemount High School will host the 19 Annual Rosemount Marching Band Festival with performances starting at 5 p.m. The festival will feature 12 of the finest high school marching bands in the state.

The gates to Irish Stadium will open at 4 p.m. to get an early seat. Concession will open at 4 p.m. too.

Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors citizens and children under 5 are free.

RAHA Fun-raiser

The Rosemount Area Hockey Association will host a fund-raiser at the AMF City Limits in Rosemount from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m.

The event will include bowling, dinner and other activities such as pool, darts and Guitar Hero.

Sign up early for bowling by e-mailing xmgr634@amf.com. Those who register early will be included in a drawing.

Bike sale

The Rosemount Police Department will hold its annual sale of unclaimed bicycles.

The inventory includes 40-50 bikes in a variety of sizes. In addition, there will be miscellaneous other unclaimed property for sale, including lawn ornaments, Sony PlayStation 2 consoles, and other electronic equipment. Prices will be clearly marked on the merchandise, which will be sold "as is" and cannot be returned.

The sale will take place from 8 to 10 a.m. at the storage garage just north of Rosemount City Hall, 2875 145th Street West. Convenient parking is available in the Central Park lot.

Troop 270

recruitment event

Rosemount Cub Scout Pack 270, serving students at Rosemount Elementary School, will hold a recruitment night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at RES. Boys entering first through fifth grades at RES are eligible to join. For more information, e-mail cubs270mn@yahoo.com.

DNR Firearm Safety class

A firearm safety class will run for eight nights at the Rosemount Middle School, 3135 143rd St. from 7 to 9 p.m.

Registration will be at 6:30 p.m. on September 8 the first class. Subsequent classes will be September 16, 23, 30, October 7, 21, 28 and November 3. A range day will be held November 1.

Class size is limited to 50 people. If more than 50 show up students will be accepted by age. The minimum age to attend is 11, although 12 is recommended.

The class cost $15. A parent or guardian must accompany the student the first night for registration and stay the first 30 minutes of class.

Bus service from community center begins

The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority (MVTA) will launch express bus service - Route 479 - between the Rosemount Community Center and downtown Minneapolis . The service will also serve the 157th St. Transit Station with buses direct to downtown Minneapolis.

Route 479 will offer two northbound trips to depart the Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride at 13885 S. Robert Trail at 6:19 and 6:48 a.m. These trips will serve the 157th St. Station at 6:29 and 6:58 a.m. and will arrive at 3rd & 7th at 7:20 and 7:41 a.m.

Two Route 479 southbound trips will depart Gateway Ramp at 4:03 and 4:31 p.m., arriving at 157th St. Station at 5 p.m. and 5:33 p.m.; and at the Rosemount Community Center Park & Ride at 5:10 p.m. and 5:43 p.m.

September 9

On the 9th Carolyn Harstad will instruction on how to attract wildlife to a garden and how to become a certified wildlife habitat through the National Wildlife Federation.

Cost is $10.

Sept. 13 and 14

September Fest

Dakota County Technical College will host a two day fall festival on its campus east of Rosemount on County Road 42.

Septemberfest will feature a number of different activities including Dakota County's got Talent competition, a car and motorcycle show, arts and craft vendors and food.

On Saturday the festival will go from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
