Editorial: Support strong spring sports teams
It’s an exciting time to be a fan of high school sports in Farmington and Rosemount.
Consider: In the past week the Farmington and Rosemount boys track teams won conference titles, in the process setting a series of personal bests, team records and conference meet records. In Farmington’s case, those records in the disbanding Missota Conference will stand forever.
Individuals from the boys and girls track teams from both schools have a shot to excel at the coming section and state meets.
On the lacrosse field, the Rosemount boys entered section play ranked No. 1 in the state and in good position to make it to the state tournament for the first time in program history. Farmington girls lacrosse ended the regular season ranked fifth in the state and poised to do the same.
If the Farmington boys lacrosse team is less impressive, it’s only by comparison. The Tiger boys earned the second seed in their section.
You want more? How about the Tiger softball team, which has battled back from an early loss in double-elimination section play and is still alive with a chance to make the state tournament for the third consecutive year?
There have been other sports highlights this school year. The Rosemount football team made an exciting run to the Prep Bowl last fall, and the Farmington boys hockey team advanced to the section final, to name just two examples from earlier seasons. But for sheer number of great performances its hard to beat what’s happening this spring.
Even better: The weather seems finally to match the season.
In other words, it’s a great time to get out and support some great teams.
