Editorial: Help us bring you the news you want

Email

As this issue of the Town Pages hits mailboxes around Rosemount most of our readers are likely deep into preparations for whatever holiday gathering they have planned. Some might even be too busy to give this particular issue the attention they might pay our paper in a normal week.

That's OK. We know what it's like this time of year. There's plenty to do, and not nearly enough time to get it all done.

Still, we could hardly let this week past without taking the opportunity to wish a happy holidays to all of you who turn to us for the news throughout the year, whether you do it online or in print. We all love what we do, but without you there to read what we have to write there wouldn't be much point for us to spend the hours we spend gathering and reporting Rosemount's news, features, sports and events. Without an audience, we might just as well be covering city council members in our diaries.

It's important to remember, then, that we're here for you just as much as you're there for us. If there's a story you think deserves to be in the paper, we want to know about it. If you have a question about something going on around town, we just might have the answer, and if we don't, we can do our best to find it. It doesn't have to be a big thing. Earlier this month we answered a question about when the city's outdoor skating rinks open.

For the record, it was Dec. 20.

We won't always have the answer. And we won't always be able to follow up on story ideas. But we're always willing to listen.

We want this relationship to go both ways. It's why we're using tools like Facebook and Twitter (we're at twitter.com/rosemount) to provide new avenues to connect with our readers.

There are several ways you can be involved in the paper. We love it when readers submit photos of youth sporting events or even just their kids playing in the snow. We're always happy to find room for for reader-submitted photos of life in Rosemount.

We know you're out there reading. Our subscription numbers tell us that. So do the statistics on our web page. But the Rosemount Town Pages can only become a better newspaper if it more accurately reflects the interests of the city it covers.
