Rosemount City Council meetings will be a bit different in 2014. Starting at the Jan. 7 meeting, the city council will begin their regular meetings at 7 p.m. Additionally, the council will hold their monthly work sessions on the Tuesday between regular meetings.
For many years, the city council has met at 7:30 p.m. The city council meets the first and third Tuesdays of each month. City administrator Dwight Johnson said the hope is the earlier start time will be more convenient for the public as well as the council members and city staff.
“We think the time change will be better for the general public,” said Johnson.
Unofficially, Johnson said the council hopes to be able to wrap up most meetings by 10 p.m. and the earlier start times will help them meet that goal.
The change to the work session schedule will likely have a bigger impact. Traditionally the city council has held their work sessions at 6:30 p.m. on the Wednesday between regular meetings. Johnson said the council felt holding the work sessions on Tuesday would provide consistency to the schedule. Johnson said the change also fits the schedules of the council members better.
The council meets for work sessions to discuss upcoming items but does not vote on items. The council will continue to hold their work sessions at 6:30 p.m.
