Community theater seeks members
Ever since Keith Reed moved to Rosemount, he's wanted to start a community theater group. Like most people, though, he's a busy guy and things came up. So years went by and nothing ever came of his intentions.
A few years ago, he joined the Rosemount Area Arts Council with the intent of starting the group at some point through them. Now the time has come.
"I've been wanting to start a group for years. I think now's the time to get this up and running," said Reed.
RAAC will host an informational meeting about the start of the Rosemount Community Theater Company at 7 p.m. June 5 at the Rosemount Steeple Center, 14375 S. Robert Tr.
The purpose of the meeting is to gauge interest in a community theater. Reed said there will be no pressure to join or commit to anything. He said RAAC simply wants to explore the idea and how people feel about it.
"If they have even a peripheral interest in community theater I hope they'll come out," said Reed.
Reed said a host of opportunities exist through community theater. A theater company involves people with talents in many areas and having a local group will give people in Rosemount the opportunity to find and use their talents.
"Theater is not just acting. I want to let people know there are many many ways to get involved," said Reed.
The theater company will need people to do sound, lighting, set building, make-up, costume design and more.
Depending on the interest shown, Reed said he hopes RAAC can put on some training sessions later this summer to give people the opportunity to learn some of those things. Then, possibly as early as this fall, Reed hopes the theater company can put on a production.
Nothing is set in stone and Reed hopes people will come to the meeting with their ideas.
"There's a lot of talent out there, we're looking for ideas right now," said Reed.
