Celebrating 40 years in the community
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Forty years ago a man by the name Bill Preston started Rosemount Saw and Tool in a one-time horse saddle repair shop. In 1976, Gary Betters bought the business from Preston because he wanted to create jobs in the community. That's what he's done ever since.

Rosemount Saw and Tool sells lawn and garden equipment and sharpens just about anything with a blade, services small engines and sells small engine parts.

Betters said when he and his wife took over the business they wanted to do what they could to provide jobs. Rosemount Saw and Tool employs seven full-time and two part-time workers. While it's not a huge number, the people who work for the business say the job means a lot to them.

Parts and warranty manager Shawn DeLeary said the Betters have created a great work environment for their employees.

"It's very family oriented and a great place to work," said DeLeary.

Geoff Kusick has worked for Rosemount Saw and Tool for 27 years. Kusick is the general manager and an expert sharpener.

He is also a father of three. He said while working for Rosemount Saw and Tool he was able to raise his three kids and be active in their lives. Kusick said working in the family friendly environment meant he could attend his kids' games and school events.

"You can't get any of that back," said Kusick.

Rosemount Saw and Tool also prides itself on providing great customer service. Betters said his employees provide personal service that you can't get elsewhere. Betters said that dedication has made a difference with customers.

"We have customers back to when we first opened," said Betters.

While it has "small town" business principals, DeLeary said they sell new and modern products. Rosemount Saw and Tool offers power cell operated products that are more earth friendly. Additionally, the business sells new and used lawnmowers, snow blowers, chainsaws, trimmers and more. The business also repairs and services most types of small engines and will store lawn equipment.

In addition to providing a good place to work, Betters also has aimed to make the business a contributor in the community. Rosemount Saw and Tool helps sponsor a number of community events. This past Leprechaun Days a team from Rosemount Saw and Tool won the bathtub races.

"We're pretty proud of that," said DeLeary.

While Rosemount has changed a lot over the last 40 years, Betters said the basics of his business haven't. He's proud to serve the community and plans to keep doing so.

Rosemount Saw and Tool did change locations five years ago. The business started in a turn-of the century building north of its current location on Highway 3. In 2007 the business moved due to the Waterford Commons redevelopment project.

To celebrate 40 years in the community and to say thank you for the community's continued support, Rosemount Saw and Tool will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22. There will be free food including footlong hotdogs, soda and water and door prizes.
