Brown signs with Lightning
JT Brown, a 2008 Rosemount High School graduate, has signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Brown was a top college free agent after scoring a team-high 24 goals and 47 points for a University of Minnesota Duluth team that came up a game short of the Frozen Four last week.
"I am excited about this opportunity to come to Tampa Bay and play for the Lightning," Brown said in the statement. "I see the organization as a great fit for me and although I had a tough decision to make, I definitely feel it was the right one. I can't wait to get started."
Brown, who led Rosemount to a 20-8 record as a senior, was named Most Outstanding Player in leading UMD to a national championship last season. He is expected to see action with the Lightning as soon as next week.
"He has all the top characteristics we look for in a player, including high skill and compete levels," Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman said in a news release. "We're glad he chose to play for the Lightning and we look forward to getting him in the lineup as quickly as possible."
Brown is the son of former Vikings running back Ted Brown.
