Bringing soul to the Christmas season
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

Rosemount residents can add some soul to their Christmas with the Soulful Sound Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at Lighthouse Christian Church. The concert is actually part of a three part series of concerts that will be held in collaboration with Grace Place out of St. Paul and Church of New Life out of Richfield.

"It's a really cool thing having all three churches work together. It's more than a church thing, it's a kingdom of God thing," said Josh Edwards, the worship pastor at Lighthouse Christian Church.

The three congregations have joined together to offer the gospel concert series. The series will begin Friday night at Grace Place in St. Paul and then a second performance will be held at Church of New Life on Saturday in Richfield. All of the performances will begin at 7 p.m. The series will end Sunday evening in Rosemount.

The Lighthouse Praise Choir, the ABC Youth Choir and the New Life Worship Choir will join forces to make up a 60-voice gospel choir. The choir will be accompanied by a band. Edwards said the individual churches and their groups have been working on the songs since November. This week the group at large has gotten together to rehearse. Edwards said it's been challenging to learn all the songs but said it's been fun.

Pastor Bill Goodwin said the concert will include songs from established gospel artists including Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and Norman Hutchins. Goodwin said the concert will include original pieces written by Twin Cities gospel musician Nate Sabin.

"We will have great music to celebrate the season and the birth of Jesus Christ," said Goodwin.

Overall the concert should include a variety of songs everyone can enjoy. Edwards said there will be some crazy pieces as well as some reflective songs.

"It really covers a broad spectrum," said Edwards.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Goodwin anticipates a packed house so he encouraged people to get their early. A free will offering will be received at each concert. A dessert reception will be held on Sunday.
