Boys track: A true team effort for Rosemount at state
After winning the True Team state title last season, the Rosemount boys track and field team placed second this time around.
It's another example that the Irish are perennially among the state's best teams when it comes to overall team depth.
Rosemount scored 838.5 points to finish second at last weekend's True Team state meet held at Stillwater High School. Eden Prairie won the team title with 903 points.
The Irish had many of the same cast of athletes contributing this season as it did in the same meet last season.
Rosemount opened with a win in the 4x800-meter relay, continuing dominance in relay events. The Irish were second in the 4x200 and sixth in the 4x400.
Zach Vraa won the 110 and 300 hurdle events. He also placed second in the 100 dash. Andrew Anderson was 10th in the 100. Conor Manning added depth in the 300 hurdles with a seventh-place finish.
Shane McCallum was fourth in the 1,600 and eighth in the 3,200.
Goaner Deng and Andrew Hausmann finished 2-3, respectively, in the 400. Hausmann came back to take fourth in the 200 with Deng placing eighth.
Chandler Dye was fourth in the 800, followed by teammate Jonathan Sampers in eighth place.
Deng added a third-place finish in the long jump. Leo Lakpa was ninth in the event.
Hausmann scored another strong finish in the triple jump, placing third while teammate Marius Lewis finished eighth.
Brandon Wolf was second in the high jump with Jordan Maeck adding points for an eighth-place finish.
Rosemount's throwing crew continued its strong season.
Joe Bjorklund was second in the shot put with teammate Brandt Berghuis right behind in third place. Berghuis also added a fourth-place finish in the discus.
Rosemount hosted the Lake Conference meet this week. Results were not available at press time.
After another strong showing during the True Team portion of the schedule the Irish are hopeful for the season ending championship meets. The section championship meet is next week at Lakeville South High School.
