After winning the True Team section and state titles this spring, the Irish had accomplished their top goals. Of course, success in the True Team environments typically leads to strong performances in the season-ending championship meets.

Last week, Rosemount proved it has the top-end talent to go with its overall depth by winning the Class 2A, Section 1 title. The Irish scored 178 points to win the section title, easily outpacing second-place Owatonna's 83 points.

Rosemount won three individual events and three relays in the process. Nine individuals and three relays advanced to this week's state meet at Hamline University.

The Irish won the 4x800-meter relay at the section meet with Chris Mergens, John Evenocheck, Chandler Dye and Sam Temple comprising the relay team.

Myles Phillips, Clayton Notch, Goaner Deng, and Andrew Hausmann won the 4x200 relay.

Mergens, Deng, Dye and Hausmann won the 4x400 relay.

Shane McCallum advanced to state in the 1,600 run by placing second at the section meet. McCallum will also compete at state in the 3,200 after another runner-up finish at sections.

Deng won the 400 at the section meet and Hausmann was second, each qualifying for state. Evenocheck added a seventh-place finish at the section meet.

Mergens and Dye will compete at state in the 800. Dye won the section event with Mergens taking second. Temple was third as Rosemount swept the top three spots.

Phillips placed second at the section meet in the 200, qualifying for state. Phillips was also third in the 100 last week.

Brandt Berghuis and Joe Bjorklund will throw at state. Berghuis will compete in the shot put and discus and Bjorklund will throw the shot put.

Bjorklund placed second in the shot put at the section meet with Berghuis taking fourth with a state-qualifying throw. Berghuis was fourth in the discus, with teammate Ben Rossini placing eighth.

Hausmann won the triple jump at the section meet to qualify for state. Phong Dovu placed third and Marius Lewis finished seventh.

Dovu qualified for state by taking second in the long jump.

Backing up McCallum's efforts in the 1,600 and 3,200, the Irish had other strong finishes. Tyler Henkemeyer was second in the 1,600 and Nathan Rock placed fifth. Rock took second in the 3,200 and Calvin Lehn was fifth.

Conor Manning placed third in the 300 hurdles, while teammate Shane Ringkob finished sixth.

The Class 2A state meet is scheduled for Friday at Saturday at Hamline University.
