The Irish swept singles play while chalking up a 5-2 decision over Prior Lake in a match moved indoors to the Lakeville LifeTime Fitness due to rain.

Anshul Bharath led the charge at No. 1 singles, where he earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Matt Simmering, Sairam Sunkam and Gunnar Anderson also won in straight sets.

Jon Elias and Alex Clausen cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win for the Irish at No. 1 doubles.

Rosemount’s next three matches did not go as well. The Irish were blanked 7-0 at Bloomington Jefferson last Thursday, lost 5-2 to coach Dana Beck’s alma mater Minneapolis Washburn, ranked ninth in the state, at home on Friday and fell 6-1 to Woodbury on Monday.

Bharath continued his solid season with two more victories during that stretch. He hung on 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 for a three-set triumph against Washburn and came from behind to defeat his Woodbury No. 1 singles opponent 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 on Monday.

Simmering accounted for Rosemount’s other win against Washburn by a score of 6-1, 6-3.

“I was very proud of how the Irish played against Washburn,” Beck said. “Sairam and Gunnar battled back to win their second set and played hard in the third. Washburn’s doubles teams were some of the best I have seen all season — very tough.”

The Irish close out the regular season this afternoon with a meet at Bloomington Kennedy.
