Boys swimming: Swimmers sweep Blaze
Rosemount won all 12 events in a season-opening 97-78 South Suburban Conference dual win over Burnsville Friday night at the Rosemount Middle School pool.
Derek Schnoor, Scotty Maki, Adam Boehmer and Sam Kendall led a 1-2-3 finish for Rosemount’s 200 freestyle relay teams, which gave the Irish a 97-40 lead and put the meet into exhibition scoring with three events to go. Schnoor was also part of the first-place 200 medley (along with Kendall, Frank Haney and Ian Gardiner) and 400 freestyle (with Haney, Ben Peterson and Noah Peterson) relays.
“The first meet went great. I could tell the boys meant business. The seniors have really stepped up and have shown strong leadership this season,” Rosemount coach Tami Carlson said. “They have a great starting point and some solid goals for the season.”One of the Irish with the biggest goals is captain Dan Monaghan. The senior began his pursuit of a second straight state championship in the 1-meter dive by winning the event with a score of 250.85 points. Kendall, also a senior captain along with Cody Sedbrook, added first-place individual finishes in the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke.“Our captains have demonstrated hard work and determination, which has set the tone for the whole team,” Carlson said.Noah Peterson, Gardiner and Haney were also double winners for the Irish. Peterson claimed titles in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Gardiner won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and Haney came out on top in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.Second-place finishes were turned in by Jason Lewandowski in the 1-meter dive, Ben Peterson in the 100 butterfly Mike Lindemann in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.The Irish traveled to Farmington Tuesday night and continue their South Suburban Conference schedule tomorrow night against Bloomington Jefferson at Oak Grove Middle School.
