Boys swimming and diving:Divers make the difference
Rosemount’s 1-2-3 finish in the 1-meter dive turned out to be the difference in the Irish’s 94 ½-90 ½ South Suburban Conference dual win over Lakeville North Friday night at the Rosemount Middle School pool.
The Irish won just three of the meet’s other 11 events, but outscored the Panthers 13-2 with their sweep of the dive and maintained the lead the rest of the way. Defending 2A state champion Dan Monaghan won the event with a score of 243.20 points. Teammates Stephen Satnik and Dan Nelson followed in second and third, respectively.
North led 18-2 after the first two events before Sam Kendall began the Rosemount comeback by winning the 200 individual medley in 2 minutes, 7.96 seconds. Frank Haney followed with a first-place 22.63 clocking in the 50 freestyle, giving the Irish a one-point lead heading into the dive.
The Panthers had closed back within six points when Kendall, Haney, Noah Peterson and Derek Schnoor teamed up to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Rosemount swimmers came in second in eight events, including the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Individual runner-up honors went to Noah Peterson in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle, Ian Gardiner in the 100 butterfly, Cody Sedbrook in the 100 freestyle, Haney in the 100 backstroke and Kendall in the 100 breaststroke.
