The Irish won just three events in their third straight dual loss since their streak of six straight section True Team titles came to an end with a third-place finish on Jan. 18.

Friday’s meet started off well with the foursome of Frank Haney, Sam Kendall, Ian Gardiner and Joey Neuens winning the 200 medley relay in 1 minute, 42.85 seconds. South took the lead with first-place finishes in the next three events, but a 1-2-3 finish in the dive pulled the Irish back in front, 40-38.

Dan Monaghan, coming off a school-record 11-dive score, won by over 100 points with a six-dive score of 255. Stephen Satnik was second and Dan Nelson third.

With the score tied at 47-47, South turned in a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 freestyle to move back in front by 10.

The Irish’s final first-place finish came from Haney, who grabbed gold with a time of 58.60 in the 100 backstroke. Haney also placed second in the 50 freestyle and as part of the 200 freestyle relay.

Kendall scored second-place individual finishes in both the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke and Gardner was second in the 100 butterfly and as part of the 400 freestyle relay.

The Irish don’t compete again until Feb. 19 when the Section 3AA prelims get under way at Hidden Oaks Middle School Prior Lake.
