Boys swimming and diving: Monaghan sets new school record
Rosemount senior Dan Monaghan blew away the previous 11-dive school record with a score of 465 points last Saturday in Eau Claire, Wis. The defending Class 2A state dive champion topped the 20-year-old school record by nearly 40 points and outscored the runner-up by over 120 points.
“Dan hasbeen determined since last year to break the school record,” Rosemount dive coach Dane Dzubinski said. “Dan is one of the hardest workers on the team and as a captain shows leadership, teamwork, and composure any captain should have.”
Monaghan scored a total of 150 points on his final three dives.
“His last three dives were very difficult dives and Dan had just started to train for one earlier in the week... His next goal is to break the six-dive record at Rosemount, as well, and then hopefully reclaim his state title come March.”
Dan Nelson added a sixth-place finish in the dive for the Irish and Stephen Stadnik was eighth. Both turned in personal-best scores.
