Going into last Monday's non-conference game at Richfield, the Rosemount boys soccer team had scored just one goal in its previous four games.

An added emphasis on taking open shots helped the Irish scored three times in their next two games, a 1-1 tie against Richfield and a 4-2 South Suburban Conference setback last Tuesday at Bloomington Kennedy.

"It was nice to see our players taking shots and the ball going in the goal," Rosemount coach Mike Floersch said after the Kennedy contest. "It was a hard-fought game."

The Irish (3-8-2) played Kennedy to a 2-2 draw over the first 60 minutes. Trevor Reis got the team on the board with a goal off a corner kick and Esti Fairchild found the net with a header off a throw-in from Kyle Johnson to tie the score at 2-2.

Kennedy netted a late goal to move back ahead, and then added a breakaway score after the Irish had moved up their defense in the closing minutes.

Richfield ended its six-game losing streak with a 1-1 tie last Monday in Richfield.

Rosemount's lone goal came from Chandler Storer on a shot over the keeper's head.

"Overall, we thought we could have won that game, but Richfield came out ready to play," Floersch said.

The Irish close out the regular season this week with conference games against a pair of state-ranked opponents. They hosted top-ranked Eastview in the final home game of the season Tuesday at Irish Stadium and travel to Eagan to face the ninth-rated Wildcats tonight.
