Rosemount’s upset bid fell just short in the second round of the Section 3AA tournament.
Ninth-ranked Eagan scored just one goal as it extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 1-0 shutout of the Irish last Thursday.
“We had about three really good chances right in front of the goal and couldn’t put it away,” Rosemount coach Mike Floersch said. “The guys played their hearts out. They gave it 100 percent so they don’t have anything to be disappointed about. They left it all on the field and that’s all I can ask.”
The loss ended the high school careers of 12 seniors on the Rosemount roster. The Irish closed the season with a record of 7-6-4 that included a 4-3-2 mark in the tough South Suburban Conference.
“I appreciated the commitment from our seniors and their parents over the past four years,” Floersch said. “We wanted to keep winning with our seniors.”
The seniors experienced victory one final time in last Tuesday’s Section 3AA opener against Park of Cottage Grove. Kohl Sparrman headed in a throw-in from Joe Fakhoury and keeper Tanner Rons preserved a 1-0 shutout under the lights at Irish Stadium.
“We played pretty well,” Floersch said. “The guys never quit and kept trying to pop the ball into the goal.”
