Boys hockey: Rosemount losing streak reaches seven
The Rosemount boys hockey team lost its two South Suburban Conference games last week.
The team's current losing streak stretched to seven games after a 10-0 loss to Bloomington Jefferson and a 7-1 loss to Prior Lake.
With both games coming at home, Rosemount (5-17, 2-13 South Suburban) is quickly losing chances at finishing strong and possibly earning a home playoff game.
Prior Lake, which is one spot ahead of the Irish in the conference standings, started strong on the ice at the Rosemount Community Center and cruised to the victory despite Rosemount being nearly even in shots.
The Lakers scored twice in the first period and four times in the second before each team added a goal in the third. The Irish were outshot 30-28, but couldn't make their chances stand up.
Matt Foley scored for Rosemount with an assist to Josh Winter.
Irish goaltender Hank Fairchild stopped 19 of the 25 shots he faced and Justin Frank made four saves in five chances in his time in net.
The Jaguars also had a strong start on Rosemount's home ice.
Bloomington Jefferson scored seven goals in the first period en route to the win. The Jaguars scored three times in the third and held an overall 43-10 advantage in shots.
Fairchild had 17 saves on 20 shots faced. Frank finished with 16 saves after facing 23 shots.
The Irish host their final home game of the regular season tonight with a game against No. 10 Eagan. Rosemount finishes the regular season Feb. 17 at Lakeville North.
