Boys hockey: Ranked teams roll by Irish
n No. 10 Burnsville and No. 7 Eagan combined to outscore Rosemount, 13-1
After last Saturday's 3-2 loss to Lakeville South, Rosemount head coach Brad Stepan predicted it would be a tough week ahead for his hockey team.
He was right.
The Irish were dealt a 5-0 shutout on the road at No. 10-ranked Burnsville last Tuesday, and then returned home last Thursday and suffered an 8-1 loss to seventh-ranked Eagan at the Rosemount Community Center. A third straight ranked team - No. 12 Prior Lake - came to town Tuesday, and now the Irish might finally get a chance to catch their collective breath Saturday against a Bloomington Kennedy team that has lost seven games in a row.
The lone goal of the week came with Eagan already leading 7-0 in the third period. Lukas Gillett found the net at the 4:55 mark with the assist going to Spike Burkard.
The Wildcats finished with a 55-12 advantage in shots on goal, which meant a busy night for goaltender Tom Fraune, who finished with 47 saves.
Fraune had 45 saves two days earlier against Burnsville. The Blaze had a 50-20 shot advantage and led 5-0 by the end of the second period.
The Irish are now 7-12 overall and 2-9 in the South Suburban Conference. A road win at Kennedy Saturday would keep them out of last place in the league standings.
