Boys hockey: Irish advance in section tournament

The Rosemount boys hockey team ended its seven-game winless streak and advanced in the Section 3AA tournament with a 6-2 win over Apple Valley in the 8 vs. 9 play-in game Tuesday night at Rosemount Community Center.

The Irish (8-16-2) pulled away in the second period, scoring five unanswered goals to take a 5-2 lead into the third. Zach Bichler and Blake Storholm netted power-play goals during the run and Storholm, Justin Crowell and Charlie Monn also tallied scores.

Blake Longhenry capped off the scoring with the team’s third power-play score at the 11:37 mark of the third period.

The Irish outshot Apple Valley 36-27 and goaltender Tom Fraune stopped 25 Eagle shots.
