Boys golf: Sweetman leads Irish to 7th
Nearly every golf event planned this year has been rescheduled twice. But now with a change in the weather the Rosemount boys golf team is finally getting into the swing of things.
The boys came in seventh out of 10 teams at a South Suburban Conference tournament held May 6 at the Minnesota Valley Country Club.
Sophomore Jake Sweetman led the pack, shooting a 79. Junior Andy Glad came in next with an 83, sophomore Luke Gillett shot an 87 and senior Travis Parker finished with an 89. The team total score was a 338.
Coach Kyle Frederickson said he thinks his players are capable of more and hopes that more frequent play will help them get there.
Frederickson said the team goal for the season is to make it to the second day of the section meet and to play as a team at state. The section meet is scheduled to start May 28.
The Irish were back playing Tuesday at Bunker Hills. Frederickson said the team enjoys taking the time to play at Bunker Hills because it's a nice preview to where the second day of the section tournament is played.
The Irish will be back in action at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a SSC tournament at Brackett's Crossing in Lakeville.
