Boys golf: Reber, freshmen step up at Le Sueur
With the recent struggles of the Rosemount boys golf team, Irish coach Greg Gamache might be looking for any signs of progress.
There likely were some intriguing story lines coming out of last week's meet in Le Sueur, even if Rosemount's participation in the tournament was limited.
The Irish competed in the first day of the two-day meet last week, but did not participate in Saturday's rounds. Out of the running for the team title, they shot a combined 332 on the first day.
The 332 total was Rosemount's second-best finish since shooting a 311 on April 19. The Irish also had two freshmen in the lineup last week.
Sam Reber used a strong start to finish with a 76, one of his better rounds of the season.
Alex Speer had his best round in several meets, shooting an 83. Josh Doyle had an 86 and John Erlandson carded an 87.
"Sam Reber had an awesome round," Gamache said. "Josh Doyle, Alex Speer and John Erlandson all had solid rounds."
The two freshmen were Jonathan Featherstone and Derek Parker.
Parker shot a 44 on the front nine and finished with an 89. Featherstone ended with a 99.
"Both played very well and represented our team positively,"Gamache said.
There isn't much time left in the season.
Rosemount has a Lake Conference event scheduled for Monday at Valleywood golf course and the section tournament begins June 1 at Keller golf course.
