Boys Golf: No more nerves

For a sophomore competing in his first state meet, Rosemount's Sam Reber admitted to having some nerves during the first round of play.

If the second round is any indication, the nerves might be gone, and Reber might have the potential to make a name for himself the next two years.

Reber was the lone Irish boys golfer to compete at this week's state meet at Bunker Hills and finished in a tie for 32nd place with a 157 total. He shot an 82 in the first round and came back with a 75 on the second day.

"It was a good experience," Reber said. "I think the nerves did kind of get to me. The second day I just tried to have more fun and I was more relaxed."

His second round 75 was among the second day leaders.

For comparison, Eastview's Joe Petrulo, who tied for the overall lead, had a 77 on the second day.

Reber improved from 53rd place after the first round, to his 32nd place finish.

"It felt good," Reber said. "I don't know. I kind of had a rough season. But it really helped to play well at the end."
