Boys golf: Irish play through busy schedule
Rosemount boys golf coach Greg Gamache fields what he considers two varsity lineups.
The Irish typically have a V1 and V2 team available for meets. Gamache likes the varsity experience the V2 team can receive while playing varsity tournaments, instead of a regular JV schedule. It also allows for some golfers to get a bit of downtime during a normally hectic spring schedule.
With a jam-packed calendar, both lineups have been receiving plenty of playing time. On Monday, the schedule called for the two lineups to be active in separate varsity tournaments.
The V1 team traveled to Olympic Hills golf course to play a Lake Conference event. Meanwhile, the V2 team went to the Hastings Country Club for a varsity tournament.
The V1 team placed ninth out of 12 teams in the Lake Conference meet, shooting a combined 334. Chaska won the team title with a 311.
Eric Frahm led the way for the Irish with an 80.
Possibly the biggest surprises for Gamache were Charlie Frahm and Josh Doyle. Charlie Frahm carded an 84 and Doyle shot an 88.
"They both have come a long way since last season," Gamache said.
Alex Speer and John Erlandson had matching 85s for Rosemount. Sam Reber finished with an 87.
The V2 team placed 15th out of 16 teams in Hastings.
While most teams fielded their usual top lineups, Rosemount had several golfers receiving some of their first varsity experience.
Joe Heinsen was the top finisher for the Irish with a 94.
Andy Oster shot a 100. Ryan Sword finished with a 101, followed by John Featherstone (102), Travis Parker (106) and Patrick Flynn (107).
