District 196 Community Education will host its second annual Run With Me Family Fun Run and Health Expo Oct. 27.This year the event has been dubbed the Border Battle Bolt piggybacking on the Minnesota/Green Bay game that will follow later that evening.

Organizer Alicia Barnick said whether you’re a Cheesehead or bleed purple and gold, they want to see fans out in their finest for the 5k and one-mile run/walks. In addition to prizes for the fastest runners in each age group, those with the most spirited attire will win prizes as well.

Overall, the event aims to encourage healthy families in Independent School District 196 while raising money for adult and youth enrichment scholarships. Community Ed spokesperson Amanda Kuhn said the scholarships help individuals and families in need access community education programs.

At the health expo there will be tailgating refreshments, food trucks, activities and information on how to lead a more healthful life.

The TC Flag Football League will run activities, there will be bounce houses and the Rosemount Elementary School Double Dutch team will perform.

“It should be a really fun event,” said Barnick.

This is the second year community education has sponsored the event. Kuhn said last year more than 200 people participated. This year she hopes to double participation.

Barnick said they are still looking for business sponsors and encouraged those interested to contact the district.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and packet filled with coupons and items that promote family health. Packets must be picked up from 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. Oct. 25 at Shannon Park Elementary School.

The Border Battle Bolt will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at Shannon Park Elementary School. The event will go rain or shine. For more information go to www.district196.org/ce/
