Rosemount's brief appearance in the section playoffs played out much like the last third of the season did.

The Black Sox got good pitching and made the plays defensively, but were ultimately defeated as their offense failed to produce enough runs. In last Tuesday's section play-in game at Alimagnet Field in Burnsville, the fourth-seeded Black Sox managed to push across just one run in a 2-1 loss to the fifth-seeded Savage Outlaws.

The Sox finished the season with a six-game losing streak that left them with a record of 11-15. They scored just two runs in their final four games.

"The last third of the season we couldn't score more than one run. There was definitely potential to do better than we did this year," Player/coach Dave Molde said. "The team maybe needs to find a couple more pieces to the puzzle, some new leadership and some feisty, young blood that is ready to get after it."

Lance Anderson started on the mound and worked four scoreless innings before Savage, a team that beat the Sox twice in three close games during the regular season, scored a single run in the top of the fifth. The Sox responded with their lone run of the game as Matt Foley doubled, moved to third on a bunt and scored on a passed ball.

Savage plated another run against Anderson in the top of the sixth before Ben Lemke came on in relief and hurled three scoreless frames.

"The defense played really well. I don't think we had any errors," Molde said. "Lance started and pitched phenomenally for six innings and Lemke held them, we just couldn't hit to get back in the game."

Jason Kirschmann had two hits for Rosemount. Brady Loew and Jordan Buck added hits.
