Black Sox finding more success
Rosemount Minnesota P.O. Box 192 / 312 Oak St. 55024

As the Rosemount Black Sox approach the halfway point of their 2008 season, things have improved from a year ago.

With 14 games played, the Black Sox are 7-7, including several wins in the conference.

"Things are going pretty well so far," said manager Matt Tschida. "I think we have surprised some teams in our conference.

"All of last year, we only had three or four wins total out of 18 games in the conference."

One of the biggest areas of improvement has been in the pitching department, where a couple of newcomers have contributed to success.

Matt Doornink, who pitched only two games last year for the Black Sox, has a 2-0 record on the mound with a 2.70 earned-run average.

Also, Rich Wiese is new to the team and has contributed on the mound, as has Tim Radmacher.

Among the highlights of the seven victories were a 15-3 win over the Lakeville Athletics, a 3-1 win over the Eagan Bandits and a 2-1 win over the Rochester Royals.

Against Rochester, Lance Anderson -- who leads the team with three victories -- pitched the complete game to pick up the victory.

Against the Bandits, Doornink pitched the complete game victory.

"We did just finish up the Cannon Falls Tournament, where we finished third," Tschida said. "I don't remember us ever placing there before (in the eight-team tourney)."

Rosemount had a chance to advance to the championship game of the tournament, but lost 8-7 in a hard-fought contest against the host team, Cannon Falls in 10 innings.

"That was kind of a tough loss for us, but we bounced back the next day," Tschida said of the extra-inning loss.

In the third-place game, Rosemount beat the Edina Esox, 8-7.

Dylan Eisele has led the offense for the Black Sox, hitting .352 with a pair of home runs and 16 RBI.

Jason Kirschman is hitting .378 for the Black Sox, while Matt Tschida is batting .333.

The team will continue its busy schedule in the coming weeks.

Rosemount will host Savage on Saturday, and then travel to Lakeville to face the Athletics on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the Black Sox will travel to Miesville to face the Mudhens, and on Wednesday they will play at Eagan.

"We've been interested in some sort of sponsorships," Tschida said.

Anyone or any business interested in sponsoring the team can contact Tschida at 612-387-7294.
