Bjorklund, Berghuis place in shot put, Irish continue Saturday at state track and field meet.
Joe Bjorklund and Brandt Berghuis placed in the shot put on Friday at the Class 2A state track and field meet at Hamline University providing the first points for the Irish. Rosemount continues with several participants Saturday in the final day of competition.
Bjorklund finished seventh in the shot put and Berghuis placed eighth, scoring five points for the Irish. Moorhead led the boys competition after the first day with 20 team points.
However, the Irish have several participants in Saturday's action.
Andrew Hausmann will compete in the 400-meter dash after finishing fourth in the preliminaries. Goaner Deng was 12th. Hausmann was also 15th in the triple jump.
Chandler Dye and Chris Mergens will run in the 800.
Shane McCallum will run in the 1,600. McCallum finished 13th in the 3,200.
The Rosemount 4x400 team will run on Saturday after placing fourth in the preliminaries.
For the girls, Shade Pratt qualified to run in the finals of the 400 after finishing fourth in the preliminaries.
The Irish 4x400 team also qualifed for the finals with a fourth-place preliminary finish.
