Bellows will run for county sheriff
Dakota County Chief Deputy Sheriff Dave Bellows announced Monday he would seek the office of sheriff for Dakota County. His announcement came a week after current sheriff Don Gudmundson announced he would not seek another term.
Bellows' career in law enforcement spans more than 30 years with two agencies. He started in 1980 as a patrol officer for the city of Lakeville, where he served for more than 19 years. During his time in Lakeville, he held many assignments, including detective, sergeant and lieutenant. He was the head of the patrol division and later served as the administrative lieutenant.
In 1999, Sheriff Don Gudmundson appointed him a commander with the Sheriff's Office. A year later, he was appointed Chief Deputy Sheriff.
