While the musical abilities of one bell might not seem that impressive, the power of a choir of bells is. St. Joseph Liturgist Bill Bradley hopes to help people realize the joy of bell music by bring Bells of the Lakes to Rosemount.

"They are really very good. I'm amazed that their repertoire is so diverse," said Bradley.

The regionally known handbell ensemble will perform at 6:30 p.m. March 16 at St. Joseph Church. The concert is free and open to the public.

"We want people to come out and enjoy the concert," said Bradley.

The performance at St. Joseph was made possible through a grant. Bradley said they were fortunate to receive the money to bring the group to Rosemount.

Bells of the Lakes will perform a variety of musical selections including some Irish songs in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. Bradley said the event will begin with an Irish sing-along. He also encouraged people to wear green.

Besides offering an evening of entertainment, Bradley said he hopes to get people excited about handbell music. Bradley said teachers at St. Joseph have been using bells with students and he hopes to further inspire people in the community.

The Bells of the Lakes is directed by William H. Mathis. The ensemble performs throughout the Twin Cities. The group was founded in 1996. The group has released several recordings. The group has an active concert schedule with performances throughout the Midwest.
