Baseball: Offense comes up short in Section 3AAA
A couple of closely-contested losses knocked the Rosemount baseball team out of the Section 3AAA tournament last week.
The Irish were sent to the consolation bracket after Eastview walked off with a 3-2 eight-inning victory in last Tuesday's second-round match up at Alimagnet Park in Burnsville. A day later, the Irish led Eagan by three runs early, but saw their 9-12 season come to an end with a 7-5 loss.
The Wildcats got away with walking 11 Rosemount batters by allowing just four hits and clubbing 12 of their own.
Matt Thaden hit a two-run single in the first inning to give the Irish an early lead. Anthony Winters and Cole Northwick added RBI hits.
Starter Alex Hassebroek allowed four runs in the first four innings, but left with the score tied. Eagan took the lead with two runs in the sixth against reliever Ben Smith.
The Irish offense also produced just four hits a day earlier in the loss to Eastview. The Lightning took their first lead in the eighth when they strung together two hits and reached on an error against reliever Luke Dahl.
Jake Schulze started and allowed two runs over four innings.
Dahl, Winters, Chris Bauer and Carl Waite each recorded singles.
