Auto parts store is open
While going out of business signs seem more common than grand opening signs these days, a few businesses are still thriving. O'Reilly Auto Parts happens to be one of those companies and its recent store opening in Rosemount is proof.
The automotive parts company opened 150 stores in 2008 and plans to open another 150 in 2009, including the store on 150 Street, according to company representative Mark Merz.
"Overall we're very much a strong and growing company," Merz said.
The Rosemount store opened Feb. 28 and so far has done well. Merz said the company acquired Checker Auto Parts Stores and is in the process of converting the stores to the O'Reilly's brand. The company closed the Rosemount Checker Auto Parts, which was located at 3420 150 St., and opened the O'Reilly's a few hundred yards west at 3420 150 St.
O'Reilly's sells after market automotive parts to both repair shops and do-it-yourselfers. From oil filters to engines for foreign and domestic vehicles, Merz said the stores sell just about everything dealing with automobiles. Merz said the company locates stores within 250 miles of a distribution center. The closest distribution center is in Brooklyn Center.
Although its large inventory of auto parts entices customers, the company's dedication to customer service is what makes it special said Merz.
"We like to say, 'We're in the customer service business but sell parts,'" he added.
The company got its start in Springfield, MO in 1957 when Charles F. O'Reilly and his son Charles H. O'Reilly decided to open their own auto parts store. The company quickly grew and now has more than 3,000 stores nationwide, according to the company's web site.
Merz said O'Reilly's first started opening stores in Minnesota in the early 1990s when the company acquired another auto parts chain.
O'Reilly's Auto Parts is open Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information visit www.oreillyauto.com or call 651-423-6758.
