354 make Run for the Gold

The familiar faces of Rosemount High School’s former and current distance running standouts once again emerged at the front of the pack at Saturday morning’s 28th-annual Run for the Gold.

Rosemount alum Trevor Capra, an all-state cross country runner for the Irish, topped the field of 236 runners in the four-mile race with a time of 20 minutes even. Capra will begin his second season as a distance runner for South Dakota State University in the fall.

Capra’s former Irish teammate Alex Berhe, an all-state cross country runner himself last fall, placed second in 20:36. Chandler Dye, another former Rosemount track and cross country standout who now runs at the University of Missouri, followed in third place with a time of 20:50, and 2007 alum Mike Bumgarner, who went on to run at Drake University, placed fourth in 21:23.

Former Irish runner Nathan Rock, now a member of the track and cross country teams at Hamline University, rounded out the top five with a time of 21:36.

The rest of the field finished at least 2 ½ minutes after the top five. Danielle Anderson was the next to reach the finish line as she claimed first place out of 128 women in the race with a time of 24:06. Farmington state track and cross country runner Lauren Peterson was 11th overall and second in the women’s division with a 25:13 clocking. Peterson was also first out of 48 women in the one-mile race, held just a half hour earlier, with a time of 5:22.4.
