Boutique sets up each weekend in the Rosemount Plaza

After having coffee with a friend at Morning Glory's, Debbie Hanson noticed the Rosemount Plaza. Curiosity struc,k and she decided to check it out. While the old mall is mostly empty now, Hanson had a vision.

With its big open space, Hanson thought the building would be a great place for a vendor's fair, and so she made it happen.

Vendors Unique Boutique has been running weekend sales in the building since Sept. 15 and includes a little bit of everything. Vendors include Avon, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Scentsy, Pampered Chef and more. Hanson said there are also people selling crafts and a farmer has been selling fresh produce. Additionally, hot food is available for sale.

There is entertainment some weekends.

While things started slow, business has grown and Hanson feels like she might have a viable business idea.

"People are loving the idea. I think it's going to work. I really do," said Hanson.

Little by little, things are coming together and Hanson said she's excited about it. The opportunity is a big shift from her past. Hanson worked in the medical field for more than 20 years. Most recently she was working as an emergency medical technician for Fairview Ridges Hospital. Three years ago, she was injured on the job and she has not been able to return to work.

Hanson said the situation was depressing but it wasn't constructive to sit around. So she started to sell Avon. She has been selling Avon for about a year.

The boutique has brought some new excitement into her life. Going forward, Hanson plans to build on the concept by possibly taking over space in a former dance studio and another storefront in the mall.

"I hope wonderful things can happen with this," said Hanson.

The weekend sales will last through at least the Christmas season. Hanson said the Vendors Unique Boutique offers some much needed retail shopping in Rosemount and she hopes people will come out and shop with them.

The boutique will host a Halloween themed boutique Oct. 27 and Oct. 28. All of the vendors will pass out candy to kids and adults can sign up for door prizes. A DJ will play music.

Vendors Unique Boutique is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
