Carlson tractor changes hands

Rich Carlson called the upcoming sale of his business a positive for his customers. Last week, Titan Machinery announced it would acquire both locations of Carlson Tractors and Equipment.

"Titan Machinery covers parts of eight states. Being part of Titan will give us pretty broad backup and give our customer access to a lot more equipment and parts. It will be a good thing for our customers," said Carlson.

Carlson said the acquisition came about from general conversation and that he looks forward to being part of Titan Machinery.

Both Rich and Ron Carlson will continue to work at the Rosemount location after the acquisition. The current staff at Carlson should stay on.

Cliff Carlson started Carlson Tractor in Hastings in 1953. In the beginning the company sold mostly agricultural equipment. A few years later, Carlson moved the business to Rosemount.

As the market for ag equipment declined in the area and demand for construction equipment grew Carlson made the transition to selling more construction items. Since moving to Rosemount, Carlson has moved a couple of times. The business currently sits at the corner of Highway 3 and County Road 42. The company also owns a location in Rogers.

Titan spokesman Jim Lilleberg said Titan looks forward to having a presence in Rosemount. Lilleberg said the company has consistently grown over the last decade and wants to establish a presence in southeastern Minnesota. The deal should close within the next week or so.

"We are excited about gaining entry to this large metro area and solidifying our New Holland CE business in the state of Minnesota with the acquisition of Carlson Tractor and Equipment," said David Meyer, Titan Machinery's chairman and CEO. "The Carlson family and their team bring a legacy of operating experience and customer relationships in the greater Minneapolis area supporting the construction equipment industry."

Titan Machinery was established in 1980 in West Fargo, N.D. The Company owns and operates a network of full-service agricultural and construction equipment stores in the United States. After the closing, Titan Machinery network will consist of 83 dealerships in North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska and Wyoming.
