Boys basketball: Irish fall short in section opener
There were no surprises awaiting the Rosemount boys basketball team in the first round of this season’s playoffs. The Irish received the No. 5 seed and faced No. 4 seed Eastview on Wednesday in the Class 4A, Section 3 tournament. The two teams met up twice during the regular season. The Lightning won 56-41 in the regular-season finale for both teams last week.

Preparing for her second and final vault, Murgic got a simple message from Irish coach Jason Passeri. The vault would be her final event as a Rosemount gymnast. “He told me, ‘This is your last vault ever. Don’t leave anything to regret. Land on your feet,’” Murgic recalled.

In the end there was no surprise appointment. At its regular meeting Tuesday, the Dakota County Board of Commissioners, on a unanimous vote, appointed Dakota County Chief Deputy Dave Bellows sheriff, replacing Don Gudmundson, whose resignation is effective Sunday. The board also officially accepted Gudmundson’s resignation.
